What’s In A Name? ...

When I visited the Hilary’s Eat Well booth at the Natural Products Expo East, all I could think of were the following lines from Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, “What’s in a name? That which we call a rose
by any other name would smell as sweet.”

The company makes a product called Veggie Burger and I know what I think of something is called a veggie burger and it’s not always a positive. I am not putting down veggie burgers, many people love them, but I‘m not one of them.  As I was walking the aisles, Maria, who was representing the company, encouraged me to try their gluten-free veggie burger.

I approached my first bite with trepidation and to my surprise I loved it.  Not only was it full of flavor and wonderfully crispy, it is low in calories, high in nutrients and easy to prepare. The main ingredient is millet and to cook, just remove from the freezer and pop it n the toaster.

But the name, I have a big problem with the label veggie burger.  A burger implies that you put it between a bun with lettuce and tomato and eat it as a sandwich. This delicious food has so much more potential for how we can incorporate it into our diet.

I immediately was inspirited to use it as a base for eggs benedict or huevos rancheros.  My mouth watered at the thought of serving it with veal stew or braised short ribs.  It would be delicious topped with smoked salmon.  These ideas were my first impressions and I look forward to finding other ways to use this delicious burger.

So, what’s in a name?  I say a lot because this product is much more than it’s name suggests. I must keep in mind Shakespeare’s message, that names are artificial and meaningless. I suggest you do the same.
