Starving At A Food Expo?

I recently attended the Natural Products Expo East in Baltimore. Now let me start with how well organized the expo was with days filled with educational seminars covering all aspects of the natural food industry and a convention center taken over with hundreds of product vendors showcasing their products. It was exciting to be part of this event.

There was one glaring problem-there was nothing for the healthy or gluten-free person to eat.  I was starving.  The offerings were fast food or Starbucks, and you wouldn’t believe how long that line was.  All I was able to buy was a gluten-free bar at Starbucks, but even they closed their kiosk at 4:30 and the seminars continued through 8:45.

On Thursday, I figured that the booths would be offering delicious samples and I wasn’t disappointed.  But after over 5 hours of walking and talking I really needed a food, a satisfying and savory option.  Once again all that was available was fast food, prepared sandwiches and unripe bananas.

Do you agree with me that there needs to be a better solution?  How ridiculous that an industry dedicated to health didn’t have any place in the convention center to buy the type of food they support and create. Even the snacks included in our seminar fees were not gluten-free.

I am making the request for the Expo organizers to arrange to have food choices available to the attendees that reflect their natural and health related principles. Something to think about is, hungry people are cranky people and if their bellies were fill, perhaps vendor sales would increase.  I’m just saying…
