NoGluten is #1 solution

Once again the #1 and only solution for treating celiac disease is the strict adherence to a gluten-free diet.  I am so happy that I have discovered great gluten-free food to eat and prepare.  How lucky we are to be eating our way to health.

In the August issue of the International Review of Immunology, clinical studies reported in the article ”New Clues in Celiac Disease Epidemiology, Pathogenesis, Clinical Manifestations, and Treatment” proved that there continues to be no pharmacological treatment for celiac disease.  In fact, there is no treatment that is currently be studied.http://www.celiaccentral.org/News/News-Feeds/View-Research-News/Celiac-Disease-Research/134/month–201108/vobid–5879/

An interesting fact noted in the article is, that over the last 30 years, the US has reported a 5X increase in celiac disease among adults, and the medical community predicts, that this number will double approximately every 15 years.

The doctors involved in this study also have found that gluten intolerance can occur any time in someone’s lifetime which contradicts former studies that believed the disease begins in childhood. This finding will impact how the disease will be studied, since in the past, researchers were focusing on genetic factors.  Now we will have to consider environmental factors as well.

The study went on to report that celiac is often misdiagnosed as irritable bowl and gastrointestinal disorders, and as many of us know, we spend years trying to find an answer for our illness.  Let’s hope that all the new research will help others get healthy faster.

So, I am glad that all I need is to continue on my exciting no-gluten food journey and I  hope  you follow along.
